Get ready to unleash your inner techie at the Combat Robotics NI Build-A-Bot event! Join us at W5 Life in Belfast, UK for an electrifying day of robot building.
Whether you're a seasoned builder or just curious about robotics and all things RC, this in-person event is the perfect opportunity to dive into the exciting world of battlebot creation with experts to help guide you!
Don't worry if you're new to the game – we are here to help and at the event you will get a bot building kit which will have everything you need to have a working bot, the kit will include:
- Motors
- Wheels
- Chassis
- Armor
- Motor ESC
- Receiver
- Transmitter
- Fittings
Don’t worry if you’ve never built a bot before—this day is all about learning, experimenting, and having a blast. We’ll walk you through the whole process, and by the end of the day, you’ll have a bot ready to battle it out in some friendly (but fierce) competitions.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the recommended age for the workshop?
All ages are welcome but under 18s must be accompanied by an adult, during the event there will be soldering which is dangerous, we will have experts on hand to help if you or your little robotier isn’t comfortable doing those parts!
What will I learn?
On the day we will have a presentation about how combat robots work, a bit about how remote control equipment works, and how to build a bot. We will also teach you how to solder, if you don't already know how to. We aim to teach STEM topics in a fun and interesting way and encourage a great deal of creativity at the workshop.
I have never soldered or build a robot before
Everyone by the end of the workshop will have a working pusher bot. We will teach you everything you need to know to get a working bot, we will also have experts on hand to answer questions and help out so that everyone leaves with a working bot that they can modify.
What type of bot will I build?
You will build a Combat Robotics NI Antweight pusher bot, a category of bot which prove to be very successful in our tournaments. We provide all equipment including a controller. We will explain what each type of bot is and encourage everyone to create unique and creative designs for future events such as our monthly meet-ups and tournaments.
Do I need to provide any tools or equipment
No, we provide all tools and equipment needed to build the bot, including a controller.
What is an Ant-Weight Bot?
An Ant Weight Bot defines the size of the bot, Ant Weights can be a maximum of 456g. Our rules state that the bot can't have any fire, explosives, anything illegal, or anything that damages the arena intentionally. Other than those we encourage all bot designs.
